CITY HIGH MATPAC WRESTLING CLUB

Dear Parents,

As we approach the second half of the season, I want to reflect back on last night's practice. I felt our MatPac athletes were excellent! They seemed more focused and this showed in the technique that was taught. This technique has been one of our baseline drills that we as a club have focused on all year. Also, I honestly think one of the major differences in last night's practice had to do with the amount of parents that physically dressed out and helped in practice.

A few athletes at last night's practice informed me that they were going to pursue other sports, get ready for their junior high season, or just did not want to do the competitive half of the season. Whatever the case, I would like to thank those parents and especially those athletes that were involved in the 2012-13 MatPac wrestling season.

It has been fun and we have accomplished a lot of things the 1st half of the season and it would not have been possible without your full support. I would like to extend the option to those parents who are planning on coming back next season to try to keep your child actively involved in the sport of wrestling. There will be plenty of opportunities to continue to build upon the solid foundation that is currently in place. I will continue to run my In-Season Training practice on Sunday's 6:30pm-8:00pm until March 24th (see attached flyer MatPac discount $35 per month) . My freestyle training academy will start sometime in April. I will keep everyone posted on the dates and time for the summer wrestling camp.

I will be extending practices time for those athletes who are enrolled in the 2nd half of the season. We will do more one-on-one training to work in each athlete's areas of concentration. Your practice schedule:

Monday's 6:30pm-8:00pm
Tuesday's 6:30pm-7:30pm
Wednesday's 6:30pm-7:30pm (optional)
Thursday's 6:30pm-8:00pm

We had a stand-up contest last night in practice and I want to thank all the athletes who participated. The 3 champions were Sam & Ben Kueter and Ezra. For winning they get to decide the restaurant of their choice their meal will be paid for by me. Great job everyone!

CITY HIGH MATPAC REGISTRATION 2012-2013

21st Annual MatPac Classic

Purpose:

To promote the great sport of wrestling and to emphasize the fundamentals that will allow our wrestlers the opportunity to succeed. The skills that will be taught and developed in this club will be necessary for success at the junior high and high school levels. Be a part of one of the top youth wrestling programs in the Mid-West!

Who Can Join:

Any interested student in grades Kindergarten through 8th grade. Size makes no difference in wrestling. Your opponents are the same weight and age as you. EVERYONE GETS TO PARTICIPATE!

Location:

City High Wrestling Room, Iowa City High School.

Grouping:
NOVICE: Designed for first year wrestlers and wrestlers who have limited experience on the mat. Basic fundamentals will be the focus as well as having a good experience and having fun.

ADVANCED: For the more experienced wrestler as well as for the wrestler that wants to develop skills to have success in competition.

JUNIOR HIGH WRESTLERS:

This year 7^th-8^th graders will have the option of attending the Matpac practices or the high school practices when they start on November 12^th. This will help further your skills and make your transition to high school easier. Contact Coach Connell if you would like more information or have any questions.

Coaching Staff:

Joe Williams: 3X NCAA Champion, 4X All-American, 5^th in the Olympics, Bronze Medal in the World Championships

Tyler Nixt: NCAA 3^rd Place Finisher, All-American, 5^th year coaching Matpac

Pete Robles: is in his 6^th year as a Matpac Coach.

Cory Connell: Will be coordinating the Matpac kids club, he was a National Runner-up, All-American, Iowa Coach of the Year in 2010.

City High assistant coaches and current wrestlers will also be on hand at practices.

Session 1 - Tuesday, November 1^st through Thursday, January 17^th

Novice - go every Monday and Wednesday from 6:30-8 pm.
Advanced - go every Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 6:30-8 pm

Session 2 - Monday, January 21^st through the end of February. Days and Times TBD.

Novice and Advanced wrestlers have the option of registering for Session 2 at the conclusion of Session 1.
Session 2 $35.00 (Includes an AAU card for the District and State AAU Championships.)

IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO REGISTER FOR SESSION 2 (JANUARY 21^ST-END OF FEBRUARY) YOU CAN PAY THE EXTRA $35 ($100 TOTAL FOR SESSION 1 & 2) OR DO SO AT A LATER TIME. YOU GET A FREE AAU CARD WHEN YOU REGISTER AS LONG AS YOU WRESTLE UNDER THE MATPAC NAME AT TOURANMENTS!

You may also register at the parents/team meeting on Tuesday, October 30^th at 6:00 pm in the Gym foyer. Mark Ironside will be there if you would like to buy new shoes at a discounted price.
